My New Venture: Roommates Wanted NYC

Before I go any further with food and community stuffs, I have to get this out for you: I am starting a new group. To some of you, this will have no effect, but most of you I bet you know someone that this will help.

I’m trying to fill holes with these events. I see problems like people not getting together in person, or not being able to navigate a menu, or being timid about different cultures, and I want to solve them. I saw some of my friends were looking for roommates and I can see that the process is filled with awkward pegs trying to fit into each other all over the city. If only there was a way to get all these potential roommates in the same room like a singles event….

————————————–

I am putting together new program called Roommates Wanted NYC on Sunday, Feb 21st. This will give people a chance to meet potential roommates in person, in a non-threatening, group environment. It’s kinda like a single’s event but for roommates. Frankly, I’m sick of people meeting each other on craigslist, going to others’ apts and being expected that the size of the kitchen is the only variable in whether or not they will accept the apartment. The roommate is an important decision and we should have plenty of choices.

We are having the first event at duckduck, 161 Montrose Ave, Bushwick/Wburg, Brooklyn from 8-9pm. Admission is free, just pay for the drinks as usual(happy hour pricing: 2 for 1 rolling rocks, $1 off everything). I will have a simple ice breaker and surprise ways to identify where you want to live and what you are looking for in an apt.

This is my first foray into a non-food centered group, but I think this will provide enough function to the community of transient New Yorkers for it to be a success. Please send me any questions, comments or suggestions you have, I hope you find it as useful as I do. This is still in it’s trial phase, there is so much potential here, I believe this can be something fun and useful if enough people know about it.

So please, tell your friends, show them the site and if you are looking for a different housing situation, Come to duckduck at 8.

Thanks for all your support. Let’s see what happens…

  1. It’s as if you sensed that I needed some roommate pairing assistance and whipped up a whole event just to help!! Well, even if it wasn’t just for me, I’m happy to be a part of it. I’ll be there…
